소비자의 손길이 닿지 않은 재고를 수거해 업사이클링 상품으로 새로운 생명을 부여하고, 이를 통해 지속 가능한 라이프스타일을 제안하는 친환경
프로젝트인 솟솟리버스(Re;birth). 솟솟리버스는 미래에도 아름답고 건강한 자연을 마주할 수 있도록 환경을 위한 크고 작은 움직임을 만들어간다. 코오롱스포츠는 이렇게
버려진 것에서 새로운 쓰임새를 찾으며 지속 가능성의 길을 모색하고 있다. 솟솟리버스를 통해 새로운 쓸모를 찾는 제품은 다양하다. 재고 셔츠에 벨트 백을 더해 새로운
디자인으로 선보이고, 재고 베스트는 숄더백으로 디자인해 완전히 다른 제품으로 탈바꿈시키기도 한다. 재고만이 아니라 코오롱스포츠의 소재를 연구하는 소재실에서 여러 원단을
테스트한 후 남은 원단을 소각하지 않고 스몰 파우치로 만들었다. 부자재가 새로운 제품이 되기도 한다. 한때 허리가 잘록한 재킷이 유행하며 코오롱스포츠에서도 많은 재킷의
허리선을 잡기 위해 리본 테이프를 활용했는데 트렌드가 변하며 더 이상 쓰지 않게 되었다. 이를 다양한 컬러의 크로셰 백으로 제작하며 남은 원자재를 활용했다. 제작 과정에서
불량이 드러나 세상에 나오지 못한 제품도 솟솟 리버스를 통해 새로운 쓸모를 찾는다. 불량 오두막 텐트 원단과 재고 타프를 해체해 만든 오두막 디테처블(Detachable)
리버스 백은 탈착이 가능한 유용한 가방이다. 포장 비닐도 새로운 쓰임새를 찾았다. 비닐을 압착해 새로운 소재로 개발한 희(H22)와 협업해 빅 파우치와 월렛, 키링, 카드
케이스를 선보인 것. 포장 비닐로 만들었다는 것을 짐작할 수 없을 만큼 주름과 패턴이 각기 다른 소품으로 완성했다.
솟솟리버스 제품은 ‘리버스(Re;birth)’를 체험할 수 있는 공간인 솟솟리버스 제주와 온라인에서 만날 수 있다. 솟솟리버스 제주는 도시 재생 프로젝트가 진행 중인 제주
탑동에 자리 잡고 있다. 과거 횟집과 노래방이 있던 건물을 최소한의 리노베이션을 거쳐 꾸민 공간. 제품으로만 지속 가능성을 말하는 것이 아니라 제품을 경험할 수 있는 공간
자체도 리사이클링과 업사이클링을 거쳐 완성하며 환경을 대하는 브랜드의 정신을 공간에 그대로 담아냈다. 해양 폐기물을 활용한 가구, 제주 바다에서 직접 수거한 부표,
코오롱등산학교에서 사용했던 등산 로프를 활용한 테이블과 의자 등을 배치한 공간 곳곳에서 환경보호에 진심을 다하는 코오롱스포츠의 이야기가 펼쳐진다. 자연을 주제로 한 전시를
기획하기도 하고, 제주 지역을 기반으로 활동하는 환경 단체, 지속 가능성을 추구하는 브랜드와 협업한 제품을 소개하고 워크숍도 연다. 리버스를 체험하는
‘리테이블(Re;table)’에도 누구나 참여할 수 있다. 오래 쓸 수 있는 물건을 만들고, 수선을 통해 물건의 수명을 연장하고, 쓰임을 다했다면 새로운 쓸모를 찾고,
버려진 것에서 미처 생각지 못했던 쓰임새를 찾아내는 것. 코오롱스포츠는 이렇듯 만든 옷이 쓰레기가 되지 않도록 다시 옷으로 환원시키며 적극적으로 환경을 지켜간다.
The Rebirth project by Sotsot Re;birth seeks to breathe new life into unsold
inventory, turning them into upcycled products and advocating for a sustainable lifestyle.
Driven by the desire to ensure a beautiful and healthy environment for future generations,
Sotsot Re;birth is leading the movement for positive change. With Kolon Sport at its helm, the
initiative transforms discarded items, paving the path towards sustainability. This project has
birthed a multitude of transformed products: unsold shirts are merged with belt bags to present
a fresh design, while overstock vests are reinvented as shoulder bags. However, it’s not just
excess stock that gets a makeover. Test fabrics from Kolon Sport material lab, which might have
otherwise been incinerated, find new life as small pouches. Once-popular ribbons used to cinch
the waists of jackets, now out of fashion, have been creatively repurposed into colorful crochet
bags. Even products that didn't pass quality control, such as tent materials and leftover tarps,
are deconstructed and reinvented. For example, these materials came together to create the
Detachable Rebirth bag, a versatile accessory that's both stylish and functional. Furthermore,
packaging plastics have been compressed into new materials and then collaborated with Hee (H22)
to produce items like large pouches, wallets, key rings, and card cases, each featuring a unique
crinkled design.
Sotsot Re;birth products can be experienced at their dedicated space in Jeju, aptly named Sotsot
Re;birth Jeju, and also online. Located in the urban revitalization project in Jeju Tapdong, the
space itself underwent minimal renovation from its former life as a seafood restaurant and
karaoke bar, embodying the brand’s ethos in its very design. The interior, adorned with ocean
waste-turned-furniture, buoys collected from Jeju's beaches, and ropes from Kolon Alpine School,
speaks volumes of Kolon Sport commitment to environmental protection. In addition to their
product line, Sotsot Re;birth Jeju often curates exhibitions themed around nature. They also
introduce products from eco-friendly collaborations with local environmental groups and
sustainability-driven brands in Jeju, and even host workshops. At the ‘Re;table,’ everyone is
welcome to partake in the Rebirth experience. The brand's vision is clear: produce long-lasting
items, extend the life of products through repairs, find new uses for items that have outlived
their initial purpose, and discover unforeseen applications for discarded items. Kolon Sport
remains steadfast in its mission: to ensure that a piece of clothing never ends up as waste, and
is instead reincarnated, taking a proactive role in environmental preservation.
